General Orthopedic Care
At Northwest Georgia Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, we are committed to providing our patients with accurate and timely diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. This complex system – which includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves – allows you to be actively in motion through work and play. In addition, we strive to help you prevent injuries and diseases of your musculoskeletal system by offering the latest educational information available on preventative measures.
Joint Injections
Therapeutic joint injections, offered at Northwest Georgia Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, are a minimally invasive treatment option used to relieve pain caused by inflammatory joint conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, and gout. Medication, used to reduce inflammation and minimize pain, is injected into the affected joint under local anesthesia. Joint injections can be used to relieve pain in the knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow, wrist, thumb, and hip.
Joint Replacement
Joints damaged by arthritis, other diseases or injuries are often very painful and can limit your mobility and quality of life. Northwest Georgia Orthopedics and Sports Medicine can replace damaged joints with a new joint, called a prosthesis that is made of plastic, metal, or both. Replacing a joint can relieve pain and help you move and feel better. Hips and knees are replaced most often. Other joints that can be replaced include the shoulders, fingers, ankles, and elbows.
Sports-related Injuries
When athletes find themselves sidelined, the professionals at Northwest Georgia Orthopedics and Sports Medicine strive to get them back into the game as quickly as possible. Some of the more common sports-related conditions that we treat include, ACL tears, bone fractures, muscle contusions (bruise), muscle cramps, shin splints, sprains and strains, torn tendons and ligaments, and more.
Arthroscopic Surgery
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows the professionals at Northwest Georgia Orthopedics and Sports Medicine to diagnose and sometimes treat joint injuries and disease through small incisions in the skin. Because it is minimally invasive, arthroscopy offers many benefits to the patient over traditional surgery, including no cutting of muscles or tendons, less bleeding, less scarring, smaller incisions, and faster recovery and rehabilitation.
Carpal Tunnel
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a painful, progressive condition caused by the compression of a key nerve in the wrist. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to avoid permanent damage to the median nerve. In addition to diagnostic testing, Northwest Georgia Orthopedics and Sports Medicine offers a full spectrum of treatment for this syndrome including surgical and non-surgical options.
