Cancer Care Nurse Navigator
Located on the first floor of the medical office building at Gordon Hospital, the center offers a warm and welcoming environment. The specially certified Nurse Navigator is trained to help cancer patients and their families through their cancer care journeys. This includes assisting families in finding credible cancer information, coordinating support groups and screenings, educating the community, and serving as a resource for patients, families, and physicians.
Take a Closer Look
Whether you’re personally dealing with a cancer diagnosis, want to learn more about a loved one’s cancer, or have a child who needs research for a school project, the center is the place to turn. In addition to being a vital aid to families, the center complements the medical and surgical oncology services already being provided in the community. Services offered at the center include the following:
Image Recovery Boutique
In collaboration with Griffin Medical Services® and Perfect Fit®, the boutique provides convenient, in-house access to prostheses, wigs, bras, and other related supplies often needed by cancer patients. In addition, certified Amona® fitters provide services.
Nutritionist and Demo Kitchen
An on-site nutritionist offers support for patients who are not in the in-patient setting but have complications due to chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. A dietician from the American Dietetics Association can address nutritional status, oral radiation side effects, chemo-induced nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue and weight loss, and parental nutritional support.
Library
Complete with a computer linked to physician-reviewed Web sites, this element of the center offers pamphlets and book resources available for checkout. The Nurse Navigator is available to assist with internet sites.
Lymphedema Therapy
A registered physical therapist, who is trained in lymphatic management, addresses the following conditions related to cancer affecting the lymph nodes:
Family Conference Room
This private area offers a serene, closed-door space for confidential conversations.
Tumor Registry
Designed to collect and organize cancer data, the registry maintains vital statistics for analysis, and communicates with state and national databases. For example, analysis of data in a tumor registry may show a rise in lung cancer among women.
