Game, set, match…tennis enthusiasts may hear those words coming from the City of Calhoun Tennis Courts during a weeklong tennis tournament being sponsored by the Gordon Hospital Foundation. The event is a fundraiser for the new Emergency Center being built on the back side of the hospital.
“This is our first-ever tennis tournament,” says Judy Jackson, development director for Gordon Hospital. “We are excited about hosting the event and look forward to all of our local and regional players signing up.”
The event, a Round Robin Doubles Event, is open to all men, women and juniors and will be held August 20-24. It is being held in partnership with the Sequoyah Tennis Association. Players will be divided into one of three levels: advanced, intermediate or beginner. The cost of the tournament is $40 per person for adults and $25 per person for juniors. The entry fee includes: a t-shirt (for adults) or water bottle (for juniors), a $25 gift card from PGA Tour Superstore, and the awards celebration.
All proceeds raised from the event will go towards the Foundation’s $300,000 commitment to the expansion of the new Emergency Center. “This space is very much needed as we experience increased patient visits to our Emergency room,” says Jackson.
“We have 13 rooms currently and our new expansion will give us 20, private rooms for patients to utilize. The new rooms will also double in size making it easier to accommodate staff, equipment and families.”
Deadline for entry is August 15 and interested persons may sign up at www.gordonhospital.com or they may pick up an application at Gordon Hospital’s information desk, Thurston’s, Biddy Boutique, and the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce. Because this event is a fundraiser, the event will not be rescheduled due to rain.
“Please come out and play,” says Jackson. “Not only will you have a great time, but you’ll be helping to improve healthcare for every resident of Calhoun/Gordon County.”
