Gordon Hospital patrons can now pay bills, pre-register for appointments and manage health history, without making a trip to the hospital, by logging on to the new Patient Portal at www.gordonhospital.com.
“Using the Patient Portal is safe, secure and best of all, convenient too,” says Tammy Putnam, director of Patient Financial Services. “It’s like logging on to a bank account online; it’s private and only the person who has the password can view the information.”
Located on the left side of the web site, the Patient Portal is made up of four main sections. The “Pre-Registration” section is designed for those who have an upcoming scheduled appointment for procedures like surgery, MRI’s, CT scans or ultrasounds. Users can enter information in about their insurance, physician, employment and emergency contacts in advance of their appointment. Trained registration staff will process the information once online registration is received. If the user has any questions, there is a phone number that reaches the registration department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The biggest benefit of pre-registering online for a scheduled appointment is that it allows you reduce your wait time on the day of service,” says Brandon McDaniel, Patient Access Manager.
In the “Pay My Bill” section, patients can instantly access their account to view the balance and make payments.
The “View My Health Records” area allows users to organize family medical information. The information provided here is for the user’s personal records only and does not become part of their medical record with Gordon Hospital. It allows users to enter their identification/contact information, emergency contacts, guarantor information and insurance data. The section includes a health history area where people can list their conditions, medical procedures, medication, allergies, immunizations and physicians.
“It is a great tool for getting organized in case of an emergency and it has a printer-friendly feature so you can file it with other important documents,” says McDaniel.
The “Request an Appointment” tab allows users to schedule annual mammograms by suggesting preferred time slots. Once received, the scheduling staff will contact them to confirm the appointment.
The Patient Portal is the beginning phase of an image and functional makeover for the Hospital’s web site, set to go live in July 2008.
